The 10.v" Corporate 14 Bolt Differential is a heavy duty differential found on many 1973-2013 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs, as well as certain versions of the Cadillac Escalade. Additionally, this differential is found on Chevrolet Limited and GMC Savanna vans produced from 1973 to current 24-hour interval.[1] Debuting in 1973, this differential is a full floating pattern with a band gear bore of 10.five inches (270 mm). As the name implies, this differential has 14 bolts holding on the differential cover. The ring gear is not held on with 14 bolts, simply rather 12. The 14 bolt differential is a pop axle swap choice for Jeep Wrangler owners,[2] and is referred to as the "corporate" xiv bolt because of the odd nature of GM'due south corporate construction in the 1970s.[3]

Pattern [edit]

The first pattern was produced from 1973 to 1984. The first design remained unchanged until 1986. This pattern had drums that were held on past the wheel studs and had a smaller diameter pinion begetting than the second design. The second design was produced from 1986 to present. 1 modify that occurred in the second design was that on some models the brake drum could be removed without having to remove the hub and beam shaft. Additionally, the pinion received a larger diameter begetting while the pinion stayed the same bore, which increased the durability of the pinion. All these axle are full floating.

Brakes [edit]

Most of the 14 bolt differentials produced through model yr 1998 were fitted with pulsate brakes,[four] but some vehicles with the 14 bolt were upgraded to disc brakes in 1999. Pulsate brakes were offered on many full size GM vans for several more years, but by 2003 all vans came with disc brakes.[five] The first design of this differential had three different bore restriction drums. At first the differential was released with drums small enough to fit 15 in (380 mm) wheels. And so later on a few years a larger drum was standard on the 3iv -short-ton (0.68 t) along with the even larger drum on the 1-brusque-ton (0.91 t). This is an area of the axle associates that is commonly converted past the enthusiast to disc brakes for added braking performance and lower cost of maintenance.[6]

Pinion [edit]

The 11.5 AAM 14 commodities rear differential began to replace the ten.5" 14 commodities in many Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks beginning in the 2001 model year. Nevertheless, the 10.5" 14 bolt beam continues in product today on GMC Savanna and Chevrolet Express vans.
